Hi, Kat. Some of the Old Garden Roses are perfect for our area. They are more disease resistant than HTs in general and make better shrubs. The class I like the best is the Chinas. Then, the Noisettes. The Teas (not hybrid teas) grow well here, too. All of those classes have climbers in them, too. The Polyanthas are very good smaller roses and the Buck roses also do super here.

Most of my roses came from suppliers thru the mail. Sad, but we don't have many of the Old Garden Roses available thru local nurseries. There was one in Ft. Smith that carried quite a few from Chamblee's last year. I can check to see if she is planning to do that again this year. Actually, it was less expensive for me to order directly from Chamblee's in Tyler, TX. They are wonderful place to start looking. Healthy roses and excellent selection.

I enjoy to looked at your album very much.. I loved your roses. You are so expert with roses! You ought to writing the publish book about How to grow lovely roses? I never thought about Wagon Wheel Poles! I have a question about it. Do you put wire or string attached to the wagon wheel? I dont think you did!

One more question.. How much do you put sand on the top? What kind of sand? How do your method of mixing good dirt for roses? I mixed peat moss and dirt. Plant the CL roses in a big holes. Yesterday I looked at my Blaze rose and start new shoots all on long canes. I am so excited! I leave it alone and has not purne it for two years.

Kat, heres a web address to Ashdown rose website www.ashdownroses.com they're on a mountain in south Carolina in zone 6 so their climate is very similar to ours.and they give a zone number for each rose and they have a lot. Some of the varities you can find at Lows or Walmart. But I always check them out at Ashdowns first They have a few you can only get there. Anyway its a fun place to look but they are pricey. good luck , tell your DH hello for me.

Kat, tell Kaye your rose problems and she will help. Try to start some from cuttings. Seems a little intimidating at first, but if you fail all you have are a few thorn sticks and some potting soil to be recycled. Hope you find some roses you love.
