soybean meal percentage

so i decided to go organic route this year, read several threads here. found out that ther is a feed store 2 blocks away so i went ahead and went to get some stuff for fertilizing, whatever that would be available. the girl in the store didnt know much, and said she only has soybean meal. 50 pound bag with 47% on it. i didnt purchase it as i wasnt sure about percentage. what is the remaining percentage when there is only 47%soybean meal? does it need to be 100%?

It means 47% protein or around or 7.52 % nitrogen. which is very high for Organic. 47 X 6.25 = 7.52

ok so i went to different store. seems there is quite a few around here now that i did search. they had cootnseed meal 41%, soybean meal 33% and alfalfa pellets 13%. i played it safe and got alfalfa. what is good percentage? is there a benefit of using different stuff every time? guess i am stuff with alfalfa if other two has too high percentages.

I don't think you are understanding. More protein is better. Alfalfa is a excellent choice although IMO you will have to use more to get a satisfactory response. I would put down around 20 pounds per 1000 sq ft of alfalfa, and 10-15 pounds if you get soy. Alfalfa has a very good NPK ratio as well as lots of iron.

ok, i guess i misinterpreted when you said that 7.52 is very high. i thought you are not recommending it. oh well. i just spread alfalfa today. my lawn is around 3000sf and i spread 50lbs. so i will get some more tomorrow.
