Need help with Great Room

I am selecting melon/coral sofa with aqua carpet. I don't know how to merge or transition. How do I make a color palate?

Thanks for a great idea. In addition, the opposite was was a lot of deep brown and black. The sofa wall will also need to balance that in some way. Any ideas for throw pillows with solid coral sofa and wall "things"?

Chime in anyone. I really need help! Thanks

Buy 1 long narrow sofa throw pillow (lumbar pillow) for center of sofa in a shade close to the rug's aqua. Not enough information for additional suggestions.

Orange and blue are opposite from one another on the color wheel and as such will be quite a dynamic combo. In terms of a color palette, you could think about incorporating a tad bit of one of the colors midway between them on the color wheel such as purple. For wall color, I'd go with a warm off white or light taupe. What is the black and brown feature you're referring to? An entertainment center?

Thanks again. On one wall are a curio with very deep brown, a black tv framed screen, a painting predominately black with some salmon hints, and a deepest brown component table. ON THE OPPOSITE WALL is the coral sofa--not print as shown, The suggested aqua lumbar pillow, area rug with coral, teal, beige, and green. All of this on an aqua carpet.
Need to balance colors on sofa wall. See attachments The tv wall: the component stand will be lower and wide with abstract painting above it.
I WELCOME ANY SUGGESTIONS. Thanks Bev

On sofa wall, why not paint it an accent wall to blend with the carpet?

Or, if you don't like accent walls, find a much lighter shade of your rug and paint all the walls.

With either choice you are not introducing another color.

You have many interesting items, but they are spread out one by one. Some items would look better clustered. The walls and window treatments are neutral. The carpet is aqua with an area rug. The area rug is coral teal beige & green. The color palette for the room is this coral, teal, beige, green area rug. Remove all items from around fireplace including "aqua" vase / pedestal and painting to left of pedestal and left of curio. Leave this fireplace / TV area plain. On top of curio a natural wicker basket and pothos plant. Using what I see: Not sure what is over sofa, now. Place abstract painting over sofa. Perhaps combine the abstract painting with other art you have for an interesting arrangement. Arrange on floor first.

2 tables on either side of sofa with lamps that enhance the paintings- or at least one table and lamp and a floor lamp on other side.

Or buy a new large painting that incorporates the colors of the area rug and 2 lamps that enhance the new painting.

Plant on table should be on floor (in corner ?). Perhaps empty "aqua" vase on coffee table?

I would change the items in the curio cabinet with mirrored back. The clear glass items seem to get lost with the mirror. Maybe a nice collection of white pottery or aqua pottery?

This is one of my favorite rooms on houzz...such energy and verve! An Oriental rug similar to this photo would be a great way to tie the coral sofa and the aqua carpet together. I would suggest some colorful prints that repeat the coral and aqua colors above the sofa as opposed to the disk object you presently have. I also suggest moving the large plant to the floor and adding a lamp to that side table.

THANKS TO ALL!! These are all great suggestions which will really come in handy once the coral
sofa is in place. I needed inspiration and you've all helped a lot. Thanks - Bev

Where do I find an official color palette. (Someone mentioned purple as being between aqua and coral)

I think you want information about a color wheel. Color palettes for rooms are devised from the color wheel. You can Google "color wheel" & find information and here is a good idea book article: https://www.houzz.com/magazine/choosing-hues-roll-with-the-color-wheel-stsetivw-vs~282705

Hi Bev. The best way to understand the color spectrum is to always go to this above as your guide. then cover it up. find the combinations of the colors your like and find out why your like them together. it might not happen overnight. That is alright.

Don't rush this process because it can get super expensive and tiresome running around. A fabric store, a few art galleries, houzz online. make notes.

I love to make a folder on the desktop for weblinks and post the weblinks in the folder. then under the weblink, I write what it is that interested me in the first place, the context. Good luck and have a great time! If you know anyone who is an artist, they can be of help in telling you why certain colors go well together. Color theory is very involved. Trust your eye for your home. Ask the houzz bunch, then make a decision. :=)

Hi Bev, can you tell us if the floral sofa is staying, and what the round object is over the couch. Cannot make it out on my monitor. Thank you.

    Hi Greenthumb,

The floral sofa will go away, and I will have a deep coral sofa (solid color). The object above will probably remain there and it is a Moon Lamp with two wattages.
