In bloom for over a month? That's pretty impressive. I like the shape of the flower. It sounds like a little guy. Something about your description of it makes me think of distichum, I'll have to look up erectum/firthii to see what the whole plant looks like. Are the flowers fragrant at all? Just curious.

quinnfyre, it is definitely not related to distichum which has equitant growth (I have a big clump of that). Kind of looks like a reedstem Epidendrum vegetatively and blooms up and down the stem -- each leaf axil producing a spike of two sequential long-lasting flowers. Can't tell if they are fragrant. It's about 8" tall and this is not the first bloom.

I just checked and actually, it has been blooming since mid-July. I have only been able to get one cap from selfing, but am still trying as more flowers are produced. Need to get a handle on a positive ID before the seeds go to Troy (assuming they are viable -- would prefer and outcross).
