South Arkansas plants

hi, I'm new here. I live in a Southern Arkansas town and I've been asked to help the school with a project they have involving plants. They need many kinds of trees and other plants that can be grown in pots. Can somebody help me find some good plant suggestions? I'd appreciate it.

What type of project is it? Is this to landscape the school or like a class project? I would think things that are common to your area found out in the woods would be your best (& cheapest) bet. How big a project will this be? I'm thinking pretty big since it involves trees.

The project is an outdoor classroom within the school grounds. It will be built on a flat concrete area and will allow the students to view trees and the animals they attract, like insects and birds.

I'm just not sure of the kinds of trees that are best. That's why I came here.
