Thank you for your comment inga007, This is one of the Japanese Epidendrums which all look sensational in the flesh, while there are many other clones equally attractive.

Had hoped to put multiple image of other Dwarf Epi. plants though did not work for me so only this one. I find them exceptionally beautiful & look forward to seeing what the seedlings produce?

Thank you ljane_ny for the compliment as it is a very pretty plant (looks as good in the flesh as in this image).
Checked out my seedling flasks of one cross I did last fall,
The image shows the parent orchid which I crossed with itself; Epidendrum Topaz Rose 'Rosie' x self (this plant appears to be free of obvious virus ).
I will post a follow up image of seedlings of this cross in flasks in a mini heated glass house (Fish tank with heater) there are a few more flasks in a separate tank; (Have not got the hang of posting more than one image in same post?)

Very interesting. I think there are very few hobby growers that start from seed. Quite an undertaking. Was the challenge more or less than you expected? Are these your first orchids from seed?

Cal Orchids sells very nice Epi hybrids but I don't think they do these compact ones. Where can one get them? They are very attractive.

Hi all, shavedmonkey yes these are my first seed, talked to a local grower who grew Dendrobiums from seed who showed me his home made lamina flow cabinet & gave me the dimensions which I modified a little.

He showed me the process & so I reproduced it, at first my first attempts failed due to cabinet filter allowed contamination in though soon fixed it & now do not have any problems.

orchidnick, these varieties are old varieties over here & am sure US suppliers have lots of variations, especially Cal Orchids? google 'dwarf Epidendrum hybrid orchids' particularly the 'Epidendrum Topaz series'.

The shortest hybrid I have is Epidendrum Topaz Delight Dumpy 'Dumpy' which in full flower is 8inch tall with masses of orange pink flowers.

I do not use breather vents in my flasks, & have used successfully cheap disposable clip lock food containers with great results (growing orchids from seed is actually easy when you get the hang of it);

am just getting into epidendrums I find them easy to grow and very rewarding. I am in Brisbane and looking for some modern varieties. I like some if the Cal orchid Pacific and Topaz crosses but being in Australia the selection is limited.
