Christie, I have a red one my hubby killed with the weed eater years ago. It came up from the roots so I left it. Much to my suprise, this year its blooming--a beautiful red one!! the white is out too, they're all blooming the same time as my crab apple.

Beautiful. In my yard there are different climates. Is one in a cooler spot or near a building that would make it warmer or cooler?

The one that's in the photo gets shaded from early evening on but full sun the rest of the day. The other one, that's getting ready to bloom, gets no shade at all.

I have a third dogwood that I planted so many years ago I've lost count. It gets dappled shade all day and is growing so slowly it's painful. It has one flower on it this year, it's first finally. Without question, my dogwoods in full sun have grown faster but they don't have trees to compete with like the other one.

My broken one on the corner of the drive in full sun is just now in full bloom. The larger older tree in the shrub border and near a large elm tree is just now showing some white.

Has anyone noticed the lilacs have definitely been tip burned by the freezes. Mine aren't nearly as pretty as last year.
