I hope everyone got through last night. The storms went north of me. I got some rain. It was very windy and blew things around - good for getting the dead limbs out of trees. It looks like we have one cold day and night and then a warm forecast for a week. They change those I've found- recently they missed a high by 10 degrees.

Kate, the dog, Jade Cat and I got through it, but I slept in my clothes and had the Weather Channel on until 2 AM. Where I am in Joplin, we went through the very "tail" of the storms which trained all the way past Kansas City. All night until it was over, the wind sounded like a wild animal outside my windows. I just hate that. Not very much rain in the gauges this AM, surprisingly.

After tonight (32 or so degrees, and my vegetables are covered) I'm calling it on winter. Enough, already!! Lettuces, carrot & beet seed, and spinach plants go out tomorrow, as well as working on my beds to plant cannas and dahlias. Cut three spears of asparagus today, and that says *SPRING is here* to me!

For us, it was the storm that wasn't! We got a little rain and a lot of wind.....more limbs for DH to pick up from the yard.

I am waiting for nicer weather to work outside. I haven't planted anything yet but do have the garden (kitchen) tilled and ready. The fruit trees and onions plants are on their way.

Hi Janie - I found Geum 'Mrs. Bradshaw' once in Springfield but I can't remember where, maybe Lowe's. It was a few years ago and I don't recall seeing it since then. I'm ashamed to say I accidentally let it dry out in its little pot and die before I even got it planted so I didn't get to try it. Does it tolerate our summer heat ok?

It's nice when the good weather falls on a weekend. I got a lot done, mostly mowing.
The storms missed us too. We got very little rain but could see some lightening in the distance. My dog was sure the world was coming to an end as she always is when it storms so I didn't sleep well.

It was 28 this morning when I looked at the temp! Not fair! I had no idea it was supposed to get that cold. I'm sure there were things I should have covered. Wish I had looked at the forecast yesterday.

My sis gave me a pant one year; it didn't return the next.

I have never tried it again.

I haven't tried to grow geum, but a facebook friend who posts flower bed pictures has them and they are always so pretty. She is in the east coast but sounds like they should grow ok here. If I find some I'm going to try them.

Had to bring some plants in last night. We got quarter size hail here. I didn't notice until 2 of my tomato plants had been broken at ground level. I transplanted them a little deeper so maybe the wound will heal and if not maybe they will strike some new roots. Not that worried about them though. I've got 66 tomato plants and not enough room to plant them all.

There is orange-red geum (forget the cultivar) at Ozark Nursery in Joplin. They do grow well here.

Janie, I was at Wickman's today and they have an orange geum. That's the only color, but they had plenty. They're much prettier in real life than pics IMO. I'll probably pick up a couple.
