Do you grow these with more constant moisture than other catts? I've not been successful with intermedia and I've just bought another. I have an orlata x flamea cross that is struggling.

Hi Sheila, i collect these because they are easy here, they are growing in a shade-house along with Australian native Dendrobiums, other Cattleyas and a few nobile type Dendrobiums. No heating and on average drier with mostly lower humidity in winter.

When i say other Cattleyas, they are mostly the types that bloom in autumn or spring and "rest" during winter.

Sorry, not much help, though i have observed that new growths made in summer never bloom. They do appear to need some sort of cooling down.

The second one is C. intermedia var. alba 'Breckinridge Snow' and from the name was possibly originated in the USA. Unlike the others it may flower several times a year.

Except for C. intermedia var. alba 'Breckinridge Snow' they are all seedlings purchased from an Australian Orchid Nursery but i suspect that most were originated in the USA. "Breckinridge Snow" has been confirmed by original owner who gave me a division as being imported from the USA many years ago.
