I've only had the mass suicide happen once on my driveway. That was last fall (06), I had started organics in Spring 06.

There were 1 or 2 on the driveway today but nothing like last year. Perhaps after year two the soil is draining better so the little guys don't need to bail out of the ground. I've noticed that my ground does feel a little softer this year.

I've also aerated once this year and last year, so that probably helped as well.

Just make sure your keeping them fed. A treatment of a good compost with some sort of meal mixed in should do wanders for both them and your lawn.
