You can turn over a new weed as easily as you turn over a new leaf. :-)

It'll work. Just make sure to get all the roots of the weed. I do this myself on my own lawn (usually in the back where not-pristine isn't a problem), figuring it can always use the organics.

I prefer using a weedhound to pull out the weed (prior to seeding) and lay it on the lawn for the weekly mulch mowing. I try not to dig the soil.
