Are you sure it's a vine. Check out "pyrecantha"(sp?)

This is a shrub that gets little white flowers then form red berries. PS it has wicked thorns.

Most of the pyracanthas I've seen planted around the city have orange berries, including the ones that are in the landscaping downtown and along the Vine St. Expressway (planted on local Vine St. above the expressway actually). I wonder if what you are seeing is some variety of honeysuckle (eg., Coral honeysuckle) - many of which do produce berries. It could also be bittersweet or perhaps some type of creeping euonymus (the vining type) that produces berries.

You don't suppose she could be thinking of Deadly Nightshade, do you?

LOL I was thinking of nightshade as a possibility too. It has some pretty little flowers. :-p

That would be climing nightshade, also known as meadow bittersweet and a few other names - solanum dulcamara.
