Hi Susan,

I try my best to be an organic gardener, so whenever I have the need to eradicate anything "living" in my gardens that I find either unsightly (weeds, etc) I utilize white vinegar. I mostly use it full strength, but on the rare occasion I add some water in the sprayer. There is another advantage to using this method of killing; a gallon of vinegar is $2 as compared to the $10 or so for Roundup.

Susan, Dig, Dig, Dig. As soon as you see a bit of it growing, dig it out getting all the root you can find. It took me at least 3 years to dig it all out of my bed but it can be done. Good luck.

i'll send over some of my deer. they've eaten my yucca to the ground, and they haven't re-grown yet.

on a more serious note...
if there aren't any other desirable plants immediately around the yucca, you might want to try boiling water. i read online that this was an effective way of killing weeds that grow in driveways and in cracks, etc., without having to resort to chemicals that might damage other plants.
not sure if it would work for plants...if anybody else has ever tried this, perhaps they could offer some insight?

I agreee witn "dig, dig, dig"! If only we could have that bloom without the razor sharp leaves. I dug mine out three years ago and had a very healthy shoot this year. That is now, hopefully, gone also.

Carol, you can start the first home for unwanted yuccas.

It isn't that I don't like them I do not care for how they have become so enormous & taken all the space they have. I like what I put by the large rocks near the pool-perfect there but not in this bed.Actually I find this year I do not like anything & want to re-do it all-as we all have done. We wonder "What was I thinking"?
