I have a vitex that is beginning to bloom beautifully this year. It didn't do much the first few years but I always cut it back because that's what the "books" said to do...I stopped doing it a couple of years ago, too, and it's doing much better. So much for advice from the experts, they didn't ask the vitex what it wanted!

That's a lot of flowers! Is it attracting butterflies? I've seen vitex recommended to plant instead of butterfly bush since butterfly bush can be invasive.
My butterfly bushes started leafing out so early this year, I didn't have the heart to cut them back. I did cut the tips back a little on one hoping it will make it bushier. They're blooming now.

I am not seeing many butterflies on anything! I think maybe I need more reds and oranges. I need to do some research and see what I need to plant.

I know I used to do more annuals and had more vibrant colors. That may be the answer.
