Close Park Gardens in Springfield

The kids and I walked around Close Park this week to see what was in bloom. I'll post thumbnails. Let me know if it's easier to load. Click on image for a larger picture.

I know they just put in the iris garden last summer but I'm not sure about the lily garden. It may have just been put in last summer too. I expected it to be boring when out of bloom but they've planted tons of annuals in between and both gardens look wonderful. The gazebo in the background of the first picture is also new.

This garden has various ornamental grasses planted in it.

A couple of my photos only partially uploaded when I put them on Photobucket so I'll try again on those.

Iris Garden - NE and out of view from the lake - I wonder if any of their Iris bloomed this year. Mine did terrible.

Butterfly Garden - Also NE of the lake - They've planted a large sweep of lantana at the outer edge of the garden that isn't blooming yet.

English Garden - This is close to the lake on the north side.

I didn't take any photos of the hosta or rose garden. The memory card on my camera was full and we didn't get to walk around the Master Gardener's display garden at all since it started raining on us.

I wonder what other gardens are in the plans there. I've really enjoyed watching the progress.

The Spfd/Greene County parks board has OK'ed 31 gardens and collections that the Friends of the Gardens requested when a master plan for Close/Nathaneal Greene parks complex was approved. Conifer garden, Biblical garden, Victorian Garden, collections of dogwoods, redbuds, magnolias, flowering shrubs, Volunteer labor accepted!!!!!!!

Bluegrass & Blossoms

Saturday July 28
2pm-4pm

Close Memorial Park, located at 2400 S. Scenic, is hosting a gathering featuring Bluegrass Bands & Awareness of the proposed Botanical Gardens!!

Friends of the Garden, a local non-profit group, is leading a fund raising effort to raise $4 million toward the construction of 19,000 square foot Botanical Center.
The building has been environmentally designed by Drury University architects Jay Garrott and Bruce Moore in cooperation with H Design of Springfield.

The center will look over Drummond Lake, adjacent to the Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden and the public gardens in Nathanael Greene and Close Memorial Gardens and Park at 2400 South Scenic.

Stop by and enjoy great music and learn about this exciting project!
