Tomato Update

It stopped raining just long enough for me to snap a few photos...

The tall tomato plant in the middle is over 3 feet tall.

This is a cluster of tomatoes from one of the plants in that bed.

Great lookin' maters, Boomer! I can't believe mine right now either. They are getting HUGE! I have green fruit and tons of flowers coming on. I have never before grown tomatos that look like these!

Susan, It is a conspiracy. We are trying to make a veggie gardener out of you so you'll quite raising those "moths". LOL

I just counted 81 little green tomatoes. yay!

I like that container bed. Is it lined with anything to keep the wood from rotting?

Great pictures and tomatoes as well.

I used Trex composite decking instead of wood. That way it never rots and unlike treated lumber it won't leech chemicals into the dirt.

Heres an updated pic of those same tomatoes 6 days later...

Ignore the date on the pic, I put in a new battery and forgot to fix the date.

....and what brand tomatos are these? Inquiring minds want to know.

Soonergrandmom - I know it is a conspiracy or mind control, brain washing.......but I won't stop with the butterflies and moths......I can't, it's an addiction I fear.

My poor little sugar snaps are producing pods just in time for the heat wave......sigh..... I just hope we are not facing a summer of extreme temps and drought.

    Susan,

Boomer has such a nice square foot garden and his plants look great, don't they!

Hoory for the snaps. I'm glad you're getting some. I will harvest the last of my plants' peas about Mon. or Tues. and then yank them out and replant that area with pole beans.

You know how closely I follow the weather, and for the last couple of months the only question in my mind has been if the searing heat/drought would start sooner or later. I'd say sooner and I think it is almost here. El Nino has ended and La Nina is trying to start up without much of a neutral period in between. A longer neutral period would be better for our gardens, but seems unlikely. I'm afraid we're in for a hot, dry summer---but I'd be happy to be wrong about that.

Wow, boomer sooner, what beautiful healthy looking tomato plants and tomatoes you have! And I love your flower bed. It must be wonderful to sit at the table and have that beautiful view of your garden right out the window. Gardens are twice as nice when you can enjoy them from both inside and outside!

    Thanks Suzie.

We get lots of birds that visit the bird bath. We have yet to see any of the hummingbirds that visited last year.

    Garden update:
We have lots of tiny green beans, and I noticed new potatos are ready to be dug and eatin. We have quarter size bell peppers and 3 inch jalepenos.

So impressed - with your arrangements (so neat!) and with your produce - you are way ahead of me - I've been proud of the blooms and marble sized tomatoes I have. Keep up the good work. I must agree that your gardens are going to be a lot easier to maintain and weed than mine are.

    Beautiful beds and flowers, too!

BoomerSooner, I got my first and only hummer so far, just a week ago. They now have 2 feeders set up, and the Question Mark butterflies are partaking of the sugar water, too! I even put up another banana for them, and they ignore it now in favor of the hummingbird feeder. Go figure!

Is your Black Krim in the container a determinate or dwarf? Or do you grow indeterminates in what looks like a 5-gal. bucket as well? I have my Jet Star in one, but don't know how long it will grow well in it.

    Susan

It's an indeterminate. I really just ran out of places to plant tomatoes, so I found instructions for the Sub Irrigation Planter (SIP) and decided to give it a try.

What is the bush with pinkish blooms in your flower bed?

    Charlie

I have no idea. It was here when I bought the house. I'd be happy to take a close up if someone wants to try and identify it.

The pink blooming plant looks like a spirea to me.

After googling spirea, I agree. It has to be spirea. Thanks.
