It doesn't to me Christy. Most of my phlox have morphed into something different than what I planted, except for David, and a few others. They tell you not to let them self-seed because you end up with muddy colors, but I like them!

As you can see, the buds are somewhat burgundy, but once they bloom the leaves and stems seem normal to me.

I love phlox but the common ones in my garden always get mildew.

I have one that has burgundy and is a deep pink,different than the real common pink one and it is starting to bloom now.Posy Pet

GD - Those look like some my mother has. On your lower pic, there's a leaf in the middle on the left that is green down the center. Mine has lots of leaves like that but the lower leaves are sort of brownish burgundy with no green at all. I don't think they are any solid green leaves.
Posy Pet - Maybe that's it. Do you know if it's an older variety?

gldno's pic looks like the one my grandmother used to grow over in Newton County, but I don't remember the burgundy in the leaves... it's been many long years, so maybe the mind is loosing it's grip. LOL Or, perhaps I am confusing it with the wild sweet williams.
