I have a couple volunteer tomatoes coming up. I'm sure the tomatoes will be very small but my daughter likes them.

Summer is starting out with a vengeance! Hot and dry......I wonder when the Arkansas tomatoes (main crop) will be ready. My MIL got some at a road-side stand, but they are not the real, garden-ripened tomatoes that we used to get from Arkansas and not much flavor. We used to get delicious ones down by the lake much earlier than our area tomatoes.

For the past several years, July 4 was my target date to look for "real maters" at the farmer's market. With the cool spring, think they got a late start and maybe by July 15th...we might find those real maters. I don't have enough sunny space to grow enough to satisfy my cravings so always hit the farmer's market too.

I got some from a local stand the other day that didn't taste too bad--they used to bring their produce out of Alabama.

I used to try to have my first ripe tomato by July 4th but will not have any ripe this year for sure!

Starting off to be a hot, dry summer. Posey--glad you got some rain.

i'm hanging out here now, cause we're moving back to arkansas in a couple of years and i want to be knowledgeable about gardening there (zone 7a probably)
i couldn't resist comenting on the tomatoes- everybody here (Houston,Tx)is trying to keep theirs alive and productivity is coming to a halt!! can you raise fall tomatoes there? if so when do you plant them?
