porcupine grass dead??

Hi, I planted a 1 gallon porcupine grass 3 yrs ago and it quickly turned into a monster. 3'round x 8' high. I cut it down to about 8" high in April. It has yet to show new sprouts for this year. Should there be any or am I rushing it? [5/22/07]
