Lightening bugs spotted last nite in Lake Carey, PA - just north of Tunkhannock..or 45 minutes "north" of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area.

i'm right outside philly. saw the first one last night. looked for others, didn't see any. assume they are on their way :)

does she capture them? i remember as a kid peeling off their light and using that as a ring. i know that is so cruel, but i didn't realize it then. i shudder to think of diong that today.

Haven't seen any yet just north of Pittsburgh. Dh, who loves them, was just wondering about the "fireflies" last night. In fact we placed our bets on what date they would first appear. I am betting that we will first see them in our yard on the 24th and he says the 26th. As we enjoy each evening on the porch, after the glittering bugs grand arrival, we will place our bets on what time and who will spot the first one to appear out of the grass. It is a nightly ritual that we enjoy as much as when we were kids chasing them down with a mason jar.

I saw them in SW Chester County last night.

yippeee!!! i just got in from a nice sit-out in the backyard and i am happy to say i saw several lightning bugs flitting around the edge of the woods! my daughter will be so happy!

maryanne, i'm happy to say that my daughter enjoys the thrill of the hunt and capturing the bugs, she puts them in a jar, and then at the end of the evening, we let them go. at least that's how it was last year! when i was a kid, we used to squash them and then write our names with them!

I've been seeing them for at least two weeks now. Not very many, just a few here and there. After it rains is when they put on a spectacular light show...it looks like every tree and bush is strung with millions of christmas lights.

Plenty of them here in Chester county. Had them for over a week.

We've had them for over a week here in Bucks County.

I think of the front part of our property as The Firefly Meadow. For some reason, lightning bugs swarm there, even up as high as the tall trees. I always step out onto the front porch to look at the show before bedtime. Beautiful!
