More rabbits this year?

I've had a LOT of rabbits around my yard this year. There's plenty of weeds for them to eat right now but I have a feeling they'll be eating my plants this winter when food gets more scarce.

Anyone else seeing more than normal? I'm wondering why and can't remember seeing any hawks around like usual. Maybe that's it. I hope West Nile hasn't taken a toll on them.

I had a plague of them until a stray and very hungry old cat moved in last winter. We didn't really want to encourage him to stay, so he cleaned out a bunch and is still working on young ones. We did finally have to help him make it through the winter, so now he owns us. LOL

Poodles hate his guts! He hides behind ground cover and attacks them...it's a hoot. But, the worst cat-sin is jumping up in people-laps where poodles think they have exclusive rights.

Sorry, guess this isn't exactly on-topic.

Luckily, I haven't seen any in my garden, due--I am sure--to the presence of my two cats and two Terriers. However, I have seen many on the gravel roads nearby when I go into town. And it does seem like they are thicker than normal. Maybe a "real" winter will do them in---if we ever get one! LOL

I've had more than my share and they are binging on my salad bar. It's made up of lilies, liatris, lirope, daylilies, and anything else they can wrap their teeth around! I'm so tired of rabbits! I had a family of babies living beneath my porch and eating all their meals from the beds next to the house.

They were thick last year (and very destructive) for me. This year they still seem to be thick, but they've left a lot alone for some reason....

OH.. I got too many rabbits, squirrels, and now new visitor ArMaDdIlLo!!! roar in our yard. Rabbits and Squirrels has not destory our daylily raised bed, but the Armadillo have done ripped our cardboard (covered the weeds) and make so many holes around the daylily. It seem not bothering it anymore now! I hope so Armadillo gone away!! Kat

Kat, I have an armadillo now too and moles! I'm just waiting on the deer to show up too and then I'll have a zoo. lol Someone told me to put juicy fruit gum in the moles tunnel so I'm trying that. I hope it gets rid of them. As for the rabbits, my Maltese gets right above them on the porch and barks his little hiney off but they don't even pay him any attention. I can walk nearly right up to them and they don't seem afraid. I guess I'll have to bring them in and fix them a bed for the winter. They appear to be nearly pets. lol
