I transplanted stuff (was this a bad idea?)

Hello from Philadelphia - I'm new to the forum, and new to gardening...

This spring I planted some Lupines, Coleus, and Four O' Clocks... But I planted many of these way too close together! The Lupines started getting claustrophobic and having problems, and some of the Coleus was downright suffocated by itself.

So I moved 'em over a bit to give them more space.

Are they going to be okay? It's June, so everything is in its prime growing season. I'm mostly worried about the Four O' Clocks, because I moved them from a pot to a flowerbed. I put the bare root in the ground. (I'm starting to think this was a bad idea)

Does anyone have any tips for how to ensure that these moved-plants will be okay?

Keep them watered, and if its hot, try some kind of shade for them.

That said, its a crap-shoot if they'll make it.

The coleus should be fine with lots of water. I move mine around all the time to fill in a space if something died or got eaten by a critter.The lupines will be ok too although may not bloom this year. Perennials can be transplanted just about anytime as long as you don't let them dry out.

greetings kilowatt...what part of philly?

i move stuff all the time. i've been negligent with some stuff and it's forgiving.

coleus i pull out of the ground and move all the time. then at the end of the season, i pot it up and take it inside as a houseplant.

i only just planted 4 o'clocks this year and i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I get crazy too so I give myself a cutoff date for transplanting of July 4th. After that you will not have as much cool weather or moisture ( not that we did this year! ). Lots of good advice here, see what works and doesn't work for you
