my veggie gardening book says peas will not grow in hot weather and does'nt recommend them for fall gardens.
you can grow beets,chard,endive,kale and winter onions besides what you mentioned. but be prepared for them to be attacked by bugs.
We have grown fall gardens but finally decided it was.nt worth it. Hope you have lots of fun and prove me wrong.

I only know about sugarsnap peas and I very much doubt if they would do well in a planter suspended so the vines would grow down as the roots need to be in cool--quite cool soil. I've done Chinese Cabbage in the fall and broccoli--starting my own plants of both. Like to plant lettuce, spinach and radishes by direct sowing. The spinach often overwinters and I pick it again in late feb, and then through late April when I take it out and start picking a little spring planted lettuce and spinach. Have also direct sowed turnips and mustard for greens and then for turnips. Have also planted early maturing bush beans and yellow squash in the fall, but they got so buggy I quit.
