Dorothy, Your broccoli looks good. My biggest head was about the size of yours, and I had others that were a little smaller. I harvested all mine earlier this week but left three plants to make side shoots. Considering how low the rainfall has been, I was pleasantly surprised by how big the heads on Packman were.

For the first time ever, we had a big infestation of harlequin bugs, and they just popped up seemingly out of nowhere in the last week to ten days. After 2 or 3 days of handpicking, I had found and destroyed most of them, but also left those last three broccoli plants not only to side shoot but to give any harlequin bugs I missed a place to congregate. It was a strategy that paid off, as I found another couple dozen bugs on those plants, and three or four more on other plants in the garden. I didn't find any new harlequin bugs or egg clusters yesterday, so maybe I got them all.

We didn't have many cabbage worms either this spring, and no potato bugs at all either so far (knock on wood, and I hope I didn't jinx my garden by saying there are no potato bugs), but I guess the harlequin bugs made up for it. It has been a decent pest year so far, if you don't count the grasshoppers, which are more or less a problem every year.
