I'm brain dead...

I've posted this also on the Perennials forum, but you all are the experts on our climatic conditions so you may have suggestions that I haven't even thought of.Here goes:

I've walked my feet off looking at plants today from places as diverse as Ace Hardware to a private (though boring) nursery and I'm still stuck with nothing. I need a plant that is: rounded in habit, is adaptable to moist soil, full sun, heat and humidity, is non-invasive and gets no taller then 2 1/2 feet tall. The spot is about 4x2 and fronts a rose bush (Tiffany). On the left side are Yellow foliage plants (Duranta Erecta Cuban Gold) and a hot pink Verbena (Sissinghurst). Flowering time should be from now until frost (not spring). The best I could come up with were mums, but they aren't available just now and surely someone has something in mind better then that. I'm pretty familiar with most heat resistant perennials/sub shrubs, but this spot has remained vacant for two years because my brain has gone as dormant as a rose bush in January. Please help me
