Transplanting Hydrangeas - too late?

Is it too late to transplant some hydrangeas that are in pots? I had rooted some branches last year and dug them up this spring and put them into pots while I thought about where their new home would be. However, I never got around to getting them into the ground.

Now that it's September should I put them in the ground or just bring the pots inside for the winter?

I don't think it's too late. We've still got about a month before the first frost, right? Should be enough time for them to grow some roots.

Just make sure you keep watering them thoroughly throughout the fall and winter (especially if it's dry and little snow) and mulch. I transplanted some oakleafs late last fall, got busy keeping 2 acres raked and forgot to mulch. The roots survived thankfully and they had to start over from the bottom up.
