Eeeek .. 1st Encounter with Webworms

Noticed that my river birch in the front yard had what looked like spider webs encasing some of the leaves and small branches. After doing a little research I'm pretty sure they were webworms.

I wasn't sure what to do with them. And it was all at the top of the tallest branch of course. Since it's still a young tree, I pulled that branch over, cut off the encased leaves, squished all the little buggers, cleaning everything I could find off the branches. Hope I got them all.

Never saw these things before. Very yukky looking.
