I received a very sweet sounding wind chime made by Woodstock Percussion. They are so beautiful I almost hate to hang them outside in the weather, but I want to hear them ringing when I'm outside working in the garden. Fortunately, no neighbors who might complain live close by!

i have to say that the best present i got was from santa....some warm weather! most of the snow was gone, and on the day before christmas, i was able to get outside and do LOTS of weeding ;-)

I don't get it.... really.... nothing. I don't get any good gardening presents unless I list out exactly what, when and where to buy it. My wife thinks I'm pulling her leg when I say I want some redworms for a worm composter, or a new pruner.... She thinks I'm much better off with a new DVD, sweater or dress slacks.

Oh well. She means well.

I bought myself (see my other post) the best garden present. The mini greenhouse/terrarium from IKEA.

Also, this year I was given an upside down planter. I never used one before, so I have to do some research on what plants will be good for it.

Sometimes hints have to be pretty specific, Kato :) For the chimes, mine was VERY specific! There are still times when I think DH should be able to read my mind, but I'm getting better at expressing what I want...after 35 years together!

Hi! Haven't been in this forum in a while, but am glad to share. Mom & dad, AKA Santa, got me a really thick and well made/sturdy shepherd's hook, a 50 lb bag of sunflower seeds, and a lighthouse birdfeeder. I had been complaining about some of our cheaper, crappy shepherd's hooks and whining about wanting to see birds outside my kitchen window. It's nice when folks actually hear you when you say things. It made me very happy.

lol Marcia, my "specific hints" are frowned upon, she thinks that gifts should be surprises and doesn't like the idea of a 'christmas list'!

My parents and brothers on the other hand ask for the Christmas list..... I haven't seen them yet for the gift exchange this year (colds going around over there), so I'm still optimistic for a new bird feeder!

My wife got me "The Lawn Bible" by the head groundsman for Fenway Park. As a fan of baseball I enjoy the sidebars with quotes and such.

As for a birdfeeder, I bought my wife a lighthouse birdfeeder in summer as a birthday present. She loved it... within a week it was destroyed by squirrels! I'm still not sure what to replace that with.

The bench sounds wonderful! This year, I received a few garden reference books that I've been wanting for ages. I was always taking them out of the library and sulking when they had to be returned. Now I have my own copies to reread forever :)

OK, I'm on a roll this morning.

So far, I bought a Kodak 850 zoom digital camera. (Dell has a good sale on it.) Get ready for good photos of roses, gardens, terraces, bald eagles, and all my other garden stuff.

After that, I made my first order for new roses: Firefighter (I think one of our posters north of Allentown grows them), S. Big Purple, Julia Child, and Amber Queen.

Gotta go! I'm in a buying frenzy. Isn't online buying great?

Well, I'm going to end my "Christmas Buying for Oneself" for the day. I also bought roses: Aromatherapy, Tahitian Sunset, and Bella-roma. I have 3 more roses I can buy. I'll save those for later.

There are some beautiful roses being developed lately. I envy your collection, chescobob.

My husband got me a pair of excellent barn/garden boots, from the Gempler (?) catalog. They're made in Canada, and are so warm/toasty/dry, I don't even need to wear socks. I just step out of my slippers right into the boots and presto! am ready to tromp around in ankle-deep mud. Perfect.

Kato, what you really need to do is revisit your gift giving. Maybe you choose her gifts too well. Perhaps if you start giving surprise gifts that are so un-her she'll need to give you hints. Then maybe she'll 'get it'. Either that or you give her pruners and a vermicomposting kit.;^)

DH and I don't exchange Xmas gifts so I give myself seed and plant orders.

I told my 15 year old to buy me soil for wintersowing she said I'm not giving you dirt for Xmas LOL bought it myself.Patty

I have to laugh. I've been known to receive a truckload of dirt for Christmas. For Christmas my DH gave me a pair of heavy duty gauntlet gloves for pruning roses and a couple of rose books.
I could not have been more pleased.

My daughter got us a lovely cat for the garden. It is playing with a ball and has excellent detail work.
Didn't even drop a hint it that direction.
