The flower bed is so lovely!

Larkspur is one of my favorite flowers. It reseeds well most years, with the exception being when early heat and drought burn up the plants before they can set seed. The first variety I planted was the common Imperial Giants blend that contained pink, blue and white flowers. For me, the blue reseeds a lot more readily than the pink or white. The last time I sowed seed, I planted Sublime and one of the newer sky-blue varieties. I'm quite a bit further south than you, so usually my larkspur plants start sprouting in March or sometimes not until April, and bloom in April or May through about mid-June when the heat in the upper 90s puts a quick halt to their season. Mine normally bloom at the same time as the poppies, giving me red (poppy), white (larkspur and sweet alyssum) and blue (larkspur and salvia farinacea) blooms for Memorial Day. My poppies already are done for this year and I yanked them out of the bed last week, but the larkspur still has a few plants in bloom, although they are finishing up now and setting seed. Zinnias that also self-sow every year are now getting tall enough to start hiding the yellowing foliage of the aging larkspur.

When larkspur is in a location it likes, it can become invasive, but it is so pretty that I don't care. I just yank out the excess seedlings where they are coming up too thick or if they're coming up in a place where I don't want them.

Dawn, we planted Larkspur out at the farm from seeds collected from our home garden several years ago and since the stand is out in the field, had to warn doctor/son to direct the tractor elsewhere. It did great this year. My wife wants to know where you got your seeds.
