Pruning

I bought my first Passiflora last year - Incense - and it was amazing! I ended up with a lot of vine and maybe two flowers all Summer. I thought it was a Clematis so, alas, it's gone forever now. I'd like to get more and bring them in over the Winter. I've been reading here how it's best to keep them in pots, etc., but I'm wondering about pruning. Does pruning the plant to keep it a smaller size encourage more flowers? I bought three small (about 3 ft high) planters (like the one shown below) and I want to put a different variety in each one. Thoughts?
