I first thought these were old pictures, until I realized that you are much further South...it's getting very bare looking up here....and it's drizzly. Love the moss...is it Staghorn? I think that's what it's called.

When I was a kid, I had a favorite place in the woods...a kind of glade with all kinds of moss...some that grows on dry rocky areas, but, also a damp spot with the deep green matted kind of moss that you could stretch out on for an afternoon nap.

Actually that's a lichen (the gray green mass). I don't know the proper name, but it's referred to as reindeer moss, colloquially.
Actually Beerhog has foliage more colored than ours. We're just coloring up now on the majority of trees (though some defoliated a month ago). It's been a very odd fall.

We still have some fall color here but my dogwood is almost bare now.

dbarron, oopss! Wrong critter. :O) I know that it is very stiff, but did't realize it was a lichen and not a moss as I always see it growing on the ground here, but maybe it is sitting on a rock. I have seen lots of it in a limestone glade surrounded by cedars...looks strange in that setting.

Back to look again..I want to see that waterfall in person! Prettier even than the one we took pictures of at Y City with Cindi, huh??
