Carl Pool is one of the best palm fertilizers. There are a few others but I forget their name. Palm Tone is OK but doesn't have a significant amount of micronutrients.

So, could anyone hazard a guess on what the fertilizer dosage should be on containerized palms for the fertilizer "Palm Tone". The label directions on the bag seem absurd. Dosage is provided in terms of small, medium and large plants without ANY indication of what on earth these relative terms MEAN and nothing on potted palms. Maybe I should just contact the manufacturer before feeding the plants.

I've never used Palm Tone but I wouldn't discount the probability that it may not be well-suited for containers. As I'm sure you're aware, slow release fertilizers in pots do not last as long as in the ground because of the more frequent watering; and you can't just add a higher amount because then the ion salts can accumulate to toxic levels.

I have had excellent results with Osmocote brand fertilizers. The nutrients are released based on temperature, not moisture, making them more sustainable in a container.

And for anyone else reading this, Cycads will not thrive if given a fertilizer designed for Palms. Cycads need much more nitrogen for example, while Palms probably need more Magnesium than what is typically found in fertilizers. A high Nitro lawn fertilizer might even be more appropriate for Cycads than a well-balanced feed.

Fertilizer

Organic fertilizers such as Espoma Palm Tone are slower acting and have less chance of burning your palm. Fertilize four times/year giving 1 teaspoon for every 4inches of pot diameter. Scratch it into the top of the soil evenly and water in. Palms also enjoy a little extra boost of micro nutrients. Do this with caution, additional micro nutrients may be iron, sulphur, or magnesium. Very small doses could help prevent yellowing foliage or spotted foliage. Usually by the time palms are exhibiting symptoms it is too late to save the look of the foliage. Although it is not a fertilizer, I would give a shot of Bio Tone periodically.
