KC Apricots and Cherries

Does anyone have experience and/or advice on growing apricots and cherries in the Kansas City, Mo. area (zone5/6)? I would like to have a tree of each, and I am curious to know which varieties (rootstock and scion) grow best in our climate as well as taste best. They would be planted on a northwestern edge of a lake.
