Moving incarnata suckers

I keep trying to dig/pull up incarnata suckers and invariably each time I seem to get the stem and a root section going straight down (usually 2-3 inches) and nothing else. I've planted a couple of these pieces and they seem ok, but is that straight section of root sufficient for the plant to grow off of?

If the straight section is actually root, then yes. However, I find that there is usually a stem going down about 6-12 inches to a horizontal root. If you get at least a few inches of that horizontal root, they transplant successfully nearly 100% of the time. Yours may survive, but I would recommend digging deeper to be certain.
