From what I have read, these fruits are always empty, so there will be nothing to eat.

They are edible--in a strange way. Several of mine have just come ripe (they have turned slightly yellow in places and have softened, and they fall off in my hand). I'd never tried to eat one, though I'd opened several in past seasons and found nothing but seeds. Apparently, they were not yet ripe (or well past). I opened one today and found a fascinating thing: seeds floating individually in capsules of milky juice. I plucked a few, popped them in my mouth, sucked until the seed was released and spit out the seed. The pulp of the capsule and the juice inside are mildly sweet with a hint of tartness at the end. It's somewhat labor intensive relative to the reward, but if you never taste it, at least take a look inside; it's every bit as unusual as the flower. I would like to know, though: Does anyone know a better way to deliver the juice from the fruit? My crop is going to come in at about three dozen, and I sure would like to partake of the bounty.

Thanks for the info. on Jeannette. It seems like a nice vine and is a pretty purplish flower, though no fragrance, and sets fruit easily. I think it would be a good candidate for a hanging basket.
I have had 3 fruit ripen earlier this season. Two were crossed with Belotti and one had 2 seeds, and one had one seed and either of those 2 had hardly any pulp. The third was crossed with caerulea and had 5 seeds and quite a bit of orangy pulp. I didn't eat it at the time, because I didnt know if they were toxic or not. The ones on there now feel heavy like there is pulp in them and they were crossed with caerulea. They are still green now though.

Interesting. I guess those with empty fruits did not have the right pollinator. 'Jeannette' has a lot of caerulea in its parentage, so it would make sense that it would produce some seeds when pollinated with another caerulea.
