I wouldn't say I'm in the south but the summers here are very hot and humid. This year I've kept the tasconias in a cool greenhouse (shade cloth, mister and fans) and they've done well. The only one I have that's blooming size is the exoniensis and it's put out occasional blooms for most of the summer. Now that the temps have cooled down I'm seeing more buds but the slugs are still a problem.

What are the temperatures in your cool greenhouse?

If I remember correctly typical summer temps in the deep South are about 90/70. We are about 80/55 and P. exoniensis seems to do great with our summer weather, even handling brief jumps up to 100 (with cool nights).

Since this post was originally in response to a question about how well mollissima does in the South, I'd add that exoniensis is mollissima x antioquiensis. I'm guessing the hybrid is at least as temperature tolerant as either of the parents.

The temps are often in the 90's during the day and 70's at night in July and Aug along with almost 100% humidity. The greenhouse was kept under 80 during the day and usually in the 60's at night depending on if I kept the fans running. If the fans were off it was whatever the outside temps were. I have mollissima, antioquiensis and the parritae crosses which are all still small but growing well. The exoniensis is the only one that's blooming size. As long as I don't have any heater issues this winter they should continue doing well. I will have to cut the exoniensis back to make room for other plants that will be going in there over the winter.
