Tabasco Peppers

I've grown tabasco peppers for the last several years. I've been working organic material, leaves and wheat cover crop, into the bed early every Spring. Normally, my plants have grown a little over 3 feet tall. This last Summer my tabasco peppers grew over six feet tall and were covered with peppers. Kind of weird reaching up to harvest tabascos. Was this last year just a good year for growing peppers? Anyone else get better growth last year than normal? Oh, and these were started from seed in the bed, not transplants.
