pruning fried windmills

Hey all,
Now that it's getting ready to warm up, I would love some advice on how and/or when to prune all these fried fronds off of my windmills. Here are pics of an overall and close up of 1 windmill, and then an overall and close up of a 2nd windmill. I am sending them one at a time in this thread as I don't have an account with photobucket, etc. Hopefully this works. Sorry for the poor quality. Straight from my iphone. Notice the first one is already sprouting out new green growth. I'm sure the second one will follow. I just wondered when I could get rid of all the existing fried ones so the trees could begin their recovery from a very harsh winter.

As long as there's no spear pull you're still in the game. If there's a trace of green on the fronds, I'd leave them on. Palms pull food from dying fronds as long as there's still some green. I'm in zone 8a, and I've have had spear pull on 3 of my 12 windmills this winter. I have had windmills survive spear pull in the past, but this winter has been extra bitter here.

Thanks. Most of the brown is a result of when I had to throw a tarp over them during a 3 day cold snap we had where temps were 1 to 15 degrees for a three day period. I hated to do it, but I don't think they could've handled that. First time I've done anything to them in three winters and they are always fine. This was a really tough winter on them. They don't have any sign of spear pull so maybe I will just wait it out a little longer before I do anything.
