Do you realize how slow these things grow ?
Not trying to dishearten you but from what i understand is these are very difficult to germinate and once you do

I just germinated 7 sabal minor seeds in about 6 weeks. I was surprised they popped so soon. I planted them in a 50-50 mix of potting soil and perlite with bottom heat at about 85*F. Nothing to it.

Sabal Minor seeds are easy to germinate. I do exactly what oppalm does. They like heat to germinate well.

Thanks for the information everyone! This place is a zone 7B and they dont grow here naturally. YET.... : D There are lowlands/wetlands about 150 meters from my house and Ive got a whole bunch of seeds. What do you think? What are the chances of their survival if I just dump a handfull of seeds out there? What about if I germinate and then plant the sprouts? A few of them are going to be used here on my property like I had originally intended but I just cant seem to fight the urge to introduce them to the wild up here in north Mississippi! They can be established before winter time really sets in plus they are cold hardy well into this area anyway. What do you all think?

Don't forget to take the shell off the seeds before you germinate them. Also, soaking them in water for a day or two prior to planting them will help them sprout faster.

I say go for it too.

They are easy enough to germinate but they do grow SOOOOO slow. I have two that I germinated in the summer of 05 and they are about 6 and 5 inches tall respectively. Be patient it will be years before they even start to split their fronds

Years huh? Wow!!! Im not even going to be living here in the summer of 08 so I guess planting them in the ground is kind of futile. I already have to pull up my two pindos so there is no way Im going to be able to pull up the Sabal Minors as well.....if no other reason than the nature in which they grow. :( Oh well....I guess the seeds will get tossed out into the wetland and maybe they will catch on...though I will never know.
