How about -12 Thursday night, warmed up to -6 last night. But at least the sun is shining during the day. Have some tomato plants several inches from the window and all the leaves on that side of the plant froze. Checking every 4 hours for ewes getting ready to lamb so babies don't turn into little "lamb-sickles". After several days of sub zero the livestock waterers start to fail also. Oh well, that's life!

I don't complain of cold anymore LOL....well not as bad! I feel for you gjfarm and your soon-to-be-born lambs. I'm a North Dakota girl living in WA and just got our first cold snap this week...the high was 15 today and tonight 0, but will steady climb back up into the 30's by next Sunday.
My sister called and told me it was -35 with the windshield yesterday :o

Yikes Chris! I've been following the news on that ice storm in the midwest. Hope the weather has a positive change soon. We had one here in eastern Wa in November of 1997 and we were without power for 10-13 days (10 for us) and man was that the *hits LOL!
This morning I read on Yahoo News that Phoenix actually hit 29 degrees; 2 dead in TX due to freezing rain, sleet and snow, but OK had the most deaths so far.

Lots of Citrus destroyed in the West. Lots of problems in the mid section. I'm actually glad it's close to 15 degrees because I wanted to start my pepper seeds inside. But now I'm not in the mood. :)

In MN we have had weird weather. Over the holidays' and first few days of January unusually warm - got to about 50 (30+ above normal). Now the cold artic air that had been hanging over Canada has arrived and we are just climbing above zero. They say a heat wave is coming for the week-end, a possible high of 20 degrees!!!!

To forget about how cold it is outside, I retreat to my grow room and enjoy all the light and check for sprouts. A few pepper sprouts have just poked through in the last day.

Hi all, I'm new, and here to report that whoever said this thing was moving south was right!

I live in South Miami and have started all my pepper and tomato seeds already, expecting the chance of a drop in temps to be zero. But, to my dismay temps are dropping like nuts!

Last night had a low of 60, which would not be unusual except we've had a warm winter so far. The night before was a low of 55, and in two nights the low will be 48 (making it the coldest night this winter). This may not seem very cold to many of you, but it was not expected here.

Now, I have a question! Some seeds and seedlings are in the ground, but others are in trays--I'm wondering if it would be worth the effort to bring them in or not. I'm not worried with the tomatoes, but will it affect the germination rates/times for the peppers much if I just leave them out (covered)? What about the seedlings, could the cold damage them? What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance, and nice to meet you :)

Disregard my question above... I'm too paranoid to leave the tender seedlings uncovered, and too paranoid to leave the seed trays out. Just incase.
