Espelette/ Basque Peppers

Hello,

So, I traveled to Spain and bought espelette pepper seeds for my Spanish boyfriend. And then I accidently washed them in the washing machine. Oh no :( So my first question is does anyone know a great place to buy seeds?

Second, I've never planted peppers before...any advice? I live in Northwest washington so cold and raily but do have a small greenhouse.

Thank you

Wow, accidently washed them in the washing machine! Sorry, but you're the first person I'm aware of who's done that, I got a chuckle.

OK, before you think I'm a jerk, did you wash on cold or hot? If "hot", I'd toss the seed. If cold, some may still germinate, worth a try in my opinion.

If you need new seed try Pimient de Espellette

For advice starting/growing chili peppers take a look here Pepper Growing Guides. Post any additional questions on the forum here.

Thanks Bill! It was hysterical actually, my boyfriend wasn't sure if we were allowed to bring them home so he more or less smuggled them, went to a special store and everything. So then I'm trying to be nice and washed his jeans-in which were the fateful seeds :( I'm going to try to germinate them, see if I grow Tide peppers...thanks I'll try to keep you posted.

Try to germinate the seeds you liberated anyways. Many of the seeds in the wild pass through a gastrointestinal tract of an animal and still germinate. Far worse than a Maytag washer can deal out!

Time is your worst enemy. Each year your germination rate drops. I think that you will do well if you step up!!! If you are willing, send half the seeds to me. I'll try to get them to germinate.

    Contact me... I can help

I've accidently washed Phoona Kheera cucumber seeds. Mine were
in my jeans also. I tried to germinate a few but nothing happened.
I would still give it a try if I were you. I ordered some Pimient de
Espelette from the Chili Pepper Institute. Let me know if you want
some. 30 seeds is too many for me anyway.

    Hey Bill!! And everyone else...
It worked, they totally germinated! They're looking great and actually produced more starts that the new ones I ordered. Maybe washing machines are a good thing??? :) Anyway, I'd attach a pic but don't know how and I'll keep you updated in case the peppers tast like Tide :)

    Hey IsRad,

Thanks for the update. Funny, I was thinking about you last week and wondering how germination went.

Congratulations! You may be on to something here, what formula Tide did you use? I may try washing a few of my seeds next year ;-)

    Good Growing,

    Bill
