If it isn't the clumping kind, you're in for major trouble. A previous owner of a house I rented a few years ago (Zone 6, New Jersey) was into weird plants and had put bamboo in sunken metal cans in the back and side yard. It did not stay in the cans, alas, and ran amok through the entire yard and into the neighbors'.

Be very, very careful with bamboo.
