George, I'm glad it came back. June is awfully late for one to resprout. Mine died to the ground in the back garden, but resprouted in May. The one I had in the molasses feed tub in the greenhouse didn't freeze, so it is producing a crop. I haven't looked at the one in the ground in the back garden lately to see if it is producing a crop, but it wasn't the last time I checked.

George, mine died back to the ground too. Bought it, cause it was rated winter hardy for here. Not sure, what I will do for it this fall.
How did you insulate yours.

It was still pretty small last fall, so I simply piled bags of leaves over and around it. I'm not sure what I'll do this coming fall. One time, a couple of years ago, I had another fig tree. I tried to over winter that one by digging it and laying it over on its side to bury it. It died.

George, the mother plant plus the two young ones we took from it three years ago also died to the ground, but put back out in May. The two in pots that endured an 11 degree night in the greenhouse are full of figs now. We never try to protect ours. If they die back to the ground we lose the fruit for the year but they have so far always come back from the ground. If the early crop frosts out as it did in 2013, without killing the tops, the plant will put on a second crop. The crop of 2013 was the best ever. But we fertilized and watered the best ever too.

This one is out in my main garden, which receives no protection from wind, etc. I wonder if I shouldn't move it to a more protected spot, like the South side of our modular home? Dorothy, your main fig tree has always been impressive to me.

When I was growing up in NJ we had a couple of fig trees. We usually wrapped them in tarps and tar paper, making a kind of tent around them. Once or twice, I remember burying them. But they got pretty large. They usually survived. Oklahoma doesn't tend to be as cold, but the kicker is that it spikes a lot lower than in NJ.
