can you post pictures of it. It sounds like for lack of a better term a bruise. Not sure how to correct that if Im right.

you know it looks pretty normal. Keep a close eye on it. If it starts to turn dark and black it is rotting.

Well you can't really see it in the photo, but its darker than the rest of the plant and very soft. Is there anything I can do if it is rot?

If it is truly rot from such trauma / bruising then the only thing you can do is to cut below the rot until you have firm, white wood. If you cut more than once, sterilize your shears (rubbing alcohol) after each cut to avoid spreading anything, just in case. After about an hour, seal the top with silicone caulk. Your plant should sprout new branches in the spring.

Sorry this happened, but at least it seems the damage is just from the trauma & not from a systemic problem. That means your plant has an excellent chance of recovering! Please keep us updated on your plant!

I didn't cut it yet, but the dark spot hardened up again and the spot just above it is still a little soft, and it almost feels hollow. I punctured the spot with a needle and and a very small amount of clear liquid came out. I wasn't sure if I should cut because its a small plant and the spot goes down pretty far.

just let it rest. sounds like it may be OK.
