Fatalii Heat ?

Some people have told me that Fatalii peppers aren't really that hot? Is this true? If they are not that hot what pepper would you compare them to heat wise? I have trying them for the first time this year and am just wondering. I will probably use them mostly in hot sauce. I have heard they have a great taste though.

thanks,

Thw Fatali that Sean gave me last year was quite hot. It was a little hotter than my Paper Lanterns (which I love for hot sauce, and salsa), but less hot than some habaneros I have tried, and certainly less hot than Tepin. The flavor was very good, and I would certainly recommend them I am growing a half dozen Fatali plants this year.

John they are hotter than a say a tabasco aren't they? Im not sure how hot paper lanterns are.

They are not as hot as I expected based on the name. The flavor, however, should be commented on. They are very good tasting, citrusy and slightly smoky. They are about as hot as a datil pepper I would say. Hotter than a tabasco but not much.

BTW, unless the tabascos I grew were freaks they were pretty durn hot, I thought they were regarded as 'average' but when I popped the first one in I became a bit wide-eyed!

The fatali I grew this year were extremely hot--I rank heat as: no heat, mild heat, hot, very hot, extremely hot. That said there is a lot of variation in heat from plant to plant depending on enviornmental and cultural factors. So people may be acurately describing their peppers and there still be a disparity.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your input. I went out of my way to get Fatalii seeds. Looks like i shouldn't be disappointed because of the flavor. Groovy ya my tabasco were extremly hot too. I made some hot sauce with them and they blow the tabasco sauce away for heat. But yet i had long slim cayenne and they didn't have very much heat at all. Actually my Jalapenos were hotter if you can believer that. There is only one place in my area that sells cayenne plants every year so i decided to grown my own instead :). Im planting most stuff from seed but stuff that is cheap and readily available i didn't. Why mess with it if you can get plants in your area for cheap. Id say im growing from seed 90-95% and the other 5-10% ill buy.
