Many thanks Karen! I have a plumeria for 6-7 years now, I prunned it for first time some days ago, I don't know the name and I don't know if and how I can upload a small photo here. I don't know if other plumeria lovers are around as it is a very rare plant for Greece except of the island of Rhodes - th eonly place in Greece - where plumerias survive due to humidity and to semi tropical climate:-)

    Hi Stemn,
There is a free picture service called
    http://www.photobucket.com

You can read the information, register and then put your jpg files in it. The way I put a picture on is to click browse, and then put in a file picture. Then it shows up in photobucket. I then click the middle html it shows, click on the left side little square, copy and paste into the message on this forum. It usually works. The html will show up, then when you preview the message, it shows the picture. Then go back and finish your message on the forum.
Think I am right on Photo Bucket, if not hope someone comes in and corrects it.

Then the members on here can see your picture of your plumeria, can identify it for you.

Now the area you live in is it dry? Do you have your plumeria outside or grow it indoors? Not knowing what season you are in at this time.

Welcome Stemm. Thankfully for many of us that don't live in zone 9 or higher (warmer) plumerias are a very easy plant to grow in containers. We just move our plants inside when the temps drop. I don't know that you can get a positive ID from a photo because there are so many varieties but you'll certainly find many friendly people willing to share their plumeria growing experience here.

well, I tried to upload a photo but..:-) ..and here is the link:

If someone has 2 minutes to have a look and give me the name I would be most grateful!:-)
The weather in Athens is very pleasant. Not dry, not wet, it's a mediterranean perfect climate! But one has to keep plumerias inside for 1-2 months during winter as temperature at night is between 46-54 F.
In summer the hotest temp is for 3-4 days up to 100-104 F.
If you put plumerias in a south/east direction is ok.

    Hi Stemn,
Your picture did not come in..click the html square in the middle, little square to the left of it, as suggested html..and hit copy..paste and see if it comes in.

Sounds like you have great growing conditions for growing plumeria.

    Hi Stemn,
Yea...you did it, your picture came in. I don't know anything about singapore, I personally have never seen it. It looks like celedine to me..Its a great flower. Does it smell like lemons? Gets to be a large plant.

Others will come in and help you identify it too.

It's 6 ft. high and it has a fantastic smell, not like lemon.

Hi stemn, I'm thinking it is a Celedine it looks just like mine but mine smells like soft lemmons. Welcome! I am a newbie too I just started September 2006 and have 17 plumies. I can't stop. Most of mine I am growing from center cuts. I have as many as ten tiny branches now on one 14 inch cutting. Good Luck!

    Hi Stemn,
wow.. 6 foot tall.. wow, that must be some sight when its in bloom. I have a celedine too, coming out of dormacy. Mine has a couple years to grow to get to that height. I am rather new at growing plumeria, this is my second year, still learning. Anxious to see mine bloom again. Yes has such a nice fragrance..Had a lot of wind couple days ago, lost a lot of leaves, so hope will fill in with new ones. They are just starting, small ones, going to have to feed it lightly.

How is your weather now? I have never been to Greece bet its a beautiful country. Are you in late summer now? or ? we are just starting spring.

But one has to keep plumerias inside for 1-2 months during winter as temperature at night is between 46-54 F.

I have good news for you; you do not need to bring most plumeria varieties inside when the nighttime temperatures are in that range unless you wish to prevent dormancy by using heat and grow lights. If your plumeria has dark green shiny leaves with raised veins on the undersides of the leaves, then you may have a plumeria obtusa cultivar, which is evergreen and probably should be brought in during your winter. Your flower does look like a Celedine, which is a plumeria rubra cultivar and therefore can be allowed to go dormant outside in cool dry winter conditions. Dry is the key word here; plumeria will rot if their roots are cold and wet during winter dormancy.

I come from Mykonos island in Greece and I recently ordered 8 different cuttings of plumeria. Everyone keeps on telling me that there is no way that they will survive on our island. Can anybody advise me?

    Stemn, Akontiza,
Kallimera! I'm not from Greece but have visited many, many times. If your plummies go dormant in the winter they must be kept dry, Akontiza if they have no leaves during the rainy season move them to a sheltered spot where they will stay dry. Stemn, I remember seeing one in bloom out by the beach in vouliagmeni many years ago at a taverna, it was in a large pot, and the owner moved it under an umbrella during the winter to keep it dry.
I keep my singapore in a plant room here during the winter as it does not lose it's leaves, it has not bloomed for me yet I hope to get some flowers this year. My others go into a cool basement where they are kept dry and dark for the winter when they lose their leaves.

Hi Stemm - welcome to the plumeria forum. I love Greece and its surrounding islands. Love the vivid color on buildings. And I now love Geraniums...used to hate it with a passion because of the scent of the leaves.

    Kasie,
Santorini and Nisyros did the same thing for me with Geraniums.
