Very, very easy palm in a container, so thou can relax. They can take anything prom direct, southern sun to partial sun. But I would strongly suggest you grow your palm in shade for a couple of weeks until it acclimates to the pot and the move (you don't know what light condition it was growing in previously). Mine (including the potted ones), are outside and difficult to overwater them in the heat of Summer. They grow best in moderate warmth though, so don't be surprised when they slow down in high heat while your other palms take off. Growth will resume in cooler temps. Good luck!

If you are growing outside for the growing season, you will eventually have to protect from Winter cold. They would prefer cool to chilly Winter temps, not a hot house. So if you have a chilly shelter that is free from hard frost, that would be fine (garage, attic, etc.,)

Actually, Windmills grow around Wash DC and Delaware. Depending on where you are in MD (coastal or not) it is actually quite hardy down to the single digits, especially if protected (as in tree cover or nearby structures). My friend has a blog called DC Tropics. If you Google it, you can see what he grows in the DC suburbs!

Thanks for the plug Greg! Windmill palms are marginal in zone 7; they will make it through many of our winters without protection or damage but many palms were badly damaged or killed by our coldest winter in 20 years. My own windmill palms were badly damaged; 1 is coming back but 2 appear to be completely dead.
