I was disgusted by the mess left by people at our local fireworks show also.

Scott, this wasn't from the fireworks show, this was from individuals shooting illegally along the river trail. I was so disgusted with the the mess, that I took photos and then contacted the TV stations. Channel 5 got back t me, and thus, the interview.

Did they think their MOMMIES were going to come pick up after them? People are so out of it these days...clueless! Heck they do this in their own yards then they just mow over them! I don't know what's gotten into people these days but apparently they just down care.

That's just terrible. What's wrong with people? Somewhere along the way did parents stop teaching their children to clean up after themselves? Moni, I'm glad you drew some attention to the mess left behind by people who ought to know better!

Our county has long allowed the use of the courthouse basement as a public storm shelter when there is a tornado warning. A couple of years ago, the county commissioners decided to stop the practice because people were leaving trash behind (and lots of it) in the basement of the courthouse. After a public outcry, they reversed their decision but reserved the right to stop allowing its use if people continued to leave a big mess behind them when they left the basement.

I haven't heard how that's working out since we live out in the country and have our own shelter, but find it ridiculous that people cannot clean up after themselves. Also, when we are headed to the tornado shelter, grabbing snacks and drinks to carry with us is not exactly what is on my mind at the moment.

I never understood this behavior. Perplexing. People love to throw their trash outside our fence line beside the road, too, until the police department moved in nearby. Not nearly as bad.

Mostly, I find booze bottles. You'd think, at least, the light weight alcoholics would throw their beer cans out to be recycled by us.. lol

Bon, It is the same along our rural road. Part of mowing the grass down by the road every week involves picking up all the trash people have thrown out since we mowed the previous week. I just don't understand it. Nobody respects anyone else's property any more.

I never have understood this trashing an area you frequent and live. I do know it was not a hard thing to raise responsible children now young adults. they do not throw their trash like other kids their age. it is just so disrespectful to themselves and others.

I hate to say this but it needs to be said.

About a dozen years ago I saw stuff like this all over (rural and small city areas) when I spent a week in Russia. There was a total lack of pride of ownership and appearance due to the long-term socialism. At that time I had never really seen much here in the states outside of inner cities, and I was a little shocked by it.

It is changing here in the US.

We launched off over $2500 worth of fireworks on the 4th. Also cooked out fajitas to feed 30+ people. Proud to say that when we left our area, there was not a single piece of trash left behind! People have absolutely no community pride for the most part.

After reading Moni's post again, I saw she said "illegally" shooting fireworks. I guess it should not be surprising that people who would do this illegally would not clean up after themselves.

The next part of the spiral downward is that taxes are raised to pay for cleanup of these types of things, and the taxes of course are paid by the types of people who would not do this stuff to begin with.
