Whats Wrong?

These plants germinated in 5 - 12 days in MG starting potting soil (2-06-13 to 02-18-13). I put them under t 12 grow lights on a timer for approx 17 hrs a day 1" - 3" away. I have a 6" fan "gently" blowing on them for 2-4 hr. intervals on and off, also on a timer. I water every 2-4 days. I use a wooden skewer to test for moisture and feeling the weight of the container as well. When I water I don't completely saturate the whole container however water enough to get below the roots in my estimation. I've fertilized only once, about a week ago using a 10 - 15% diluted mixture of MG Bloom Booster and noted no difference. The room temp stays between 70 - 74 degrees. The coloring is good. No bugs, fungus or spotting that I can detect. Two plants have actually fallen over at the base and the leaves continue to be droopy. I have 14 different types of peppers and realize they can grow differently however few are stout and "perky" in my grow here. Last year (my 1st) when I got droopy leaves the plants were mature, bearing fruit and watering perk them right up. Should I be watering deeper, raising my light or what. Should I be concerned? Thanks.

My Christmas Bell peppers are growing just like in your photos, but my habs, bhut, and butch t are all growing normal. All in the same location, same lighting and watering and I don't know why :( Hope mine don't fall over.

The size of the pots seems to me a bit small. I think there would be possible rootbound.

I had similar problems with small pots before, when I watered the soil wet so fast and dry so fast and made my seedlings stress a lot. Whenever I have similar problems I do check the roots and soil.

I had the fan on since the beginning and the lights down very close. My setup has two tiers with two lights each. My wife thought that when I'm watering I'm too worried about over watering that I'm not giving them a good enough drink. I also noticed this morning that the leaves on the plants are perking up. They have been in the dark hours with out lights for the last 5 hours. we'll see. Thanks for the responses.

Bottom Water. Let them soak up water, when they look damp, move them to another tray so they can drain any excess if there is still water in the tray. Also, they all might not need a drink at the same time so if one is drier, let it have a drink when needed.

Move your lights as close as you can get them. My lights are within 1 inch since different plant varieties will grow at different paces - they won't all be the same size....... Since I have multiple lights I'm constantly moving the plants around, keeping them grouped more by size keeping them close to the lights.

Thanks sandysgarden. I 'll try that watering method. I have been moving the plants around like checkers and elevating the little ones to the bulbs. I may add a another light set up to accommodate the various sizes as they all grow. Thanks again.

Do you need new bulbs? The length of stem between sets of leaves (and between soil line and first set of leaves in particular) indicate a lack of adequate light in the 2nd and final pictures. The others look fine, though, so really I'm not too sure why some would be leggy as if light-starved while others are compact and happy. The lights in the first picture do seem much closer to the plants than in the other two pictures, though... Perhaps you just need to keep the lights closer on those trays.

Thanks Sunnibel. I failed to indicate that I raised the lights for the photos. I'll keep an eye on my bulbs but the setup is brand new. I am happy to say and encouraged that I watered them deeper last night and today the drooping leaves are just about perpendicular with the stems and look much better. Perhaps I was starving them of water, however I don't want to get carried away. Thanks again all. Bill
