can't help with the ID, but... where are you in Kansas. I grow palms, tropicals and bananas in OP Ks. Good luck with your coco it looks nice.

I live in Wichita,I too grow tropicals, bananas and palms.
    Where's OP?

    I live in Topeka.
Is the "OP" you mean Overland Park? If yea, maybe would trade some stuff sometime,
Just my opinion, but from the seed, that looks like the tall Coco. I have about 10-15 Dwarfs growing right, but it is hard to tell cause no referance to the size of the seed.
But whatever it is, it sure looks GREAT and healty.

I believe it is a dwarf (greem malayan maybe). I believe this because of it's look and your location. Where did you get it? There are very few talls left in Florida because of Lethal yellowing disiese and Pacific talls can be more expensive for Lowes or nurserys because of the cost of shipping from Hawaii. Just a guess. May I suggest watering the hell out of it. The warmer it is the more water they require. You may also want to give it filtered sun in that kind of heat. They are not designed for dry 109. They much prefer a humid 88. Good luck with it it looks really cool.

Sorry, OP is Overland Park Ks. I saw on this forum where a couple of guys had opened a nursery in Wichita and were selling cold hardy palms. Have you seen or been or heard about this?

Looks like a green dwarf to me.

The guy from Wichita has not been here for awhile.
If you live in O. P. then do you know about the place in Leroy, Kansas, which is is just south west of K.C. called "Arnold's Greenhouse"?
They have a HUGE inventory. I got a bunch of Musa Basjoo, Yellow Groove Bamboo, Yucca Rostrata, and Washingtonia Robusta from them. They grow all there stuff right there, so it is MUCH MUCH cheaper than anywhere else.
They have many other palms there too.

Andy, yes I bought it at a local nursery, it probably is a dwarf.
Oppalm,no I haven't heard of anybody opening a nursery of cold hardy palms here.
Florida Wanna be,I'm always here once a week at least, but lately haven't been posting, but reading some of the post that interest me,but I always check this forum, banana, tropicals, and pssifloras.Hope I haven't upset anyone for posting,as I have been a member for some years now!!!
I grow several palms and enjoy reading the post very much, but am not really qualified enough on palms to give advice on growing them!

florida wannabe - I have heard of Arnolds Greenhouse. I have looked it up on a map and I know where they are. I may call them to see what they have this late in the season.

Does anyone from Kansas have any palms planted in the ground yet? I planted a T Fortunei in the ground in April and it has been slow to grow. I hope it's throwing done some roots. I plan on protecting it this winter. What about you?

I have TF. growing in a 15 gallon container,I don't have anyplace to plant it now that I already have my tropical garden planted, but it will go in the ground next year.

I didn't plant anything directly into the ground this year, as most of my stuff is still small and need to get good roots going. So I overwinter inside with grow lights and humidifier.
I pot planted everything I wanted this summer. I water every other day and feed 1 time a week (Peter's 20-20-20). Because of the heat and watering, I must say that everything I have pot planted is absolutly THRIVING.
In the front, I have a Pachypodium Gaeyi that's about 2' tall. An Cycas Edule No. Mexico thats about 2' trunked, a 3' banyan tree and a 5' Faxonia that gets people coming to my door and asking about it. The Faxonia is growing at an unbelievable rate with this heat. It grows at least an inch every two days and puts out new shoots almost every day.
In the back I have one Robusta about 2' trunk with one leave opening and one leaf poking out. Another Robusta 4' trunk with new leaf opening. Yellow Groove Bamboo with 1/2 inch culms, PDP with 6" trunk, Valencia Orange tree, 2 Rostrata with both putting new leaves every day, 4 King Sago's with one being a juvenile w/ no new flushes, another one that had not flushed in 2 years but it flushed this year with a set of 6, another one that produced a 10 flush and the biggest flushed THIRTEEN this week. I have a 6" Hystrix (currently putting on new leaf), 6" Sabal Minor, 2 Takils both with 1' trunk and both putting on new leaf, Phoenix Theo w/ 6" trunk and a Pineapple that is doing GREAT!
THats what I have pot planted outside. But inside I many trees of Royal Palms, Cycas Edule, Taraw Palm, Zamia Floridana, Zamia sp., Butterfly Palm, Livistona Chinensis, Canary Island Date Palm, Robusta, Filifera, Filibusta, Fortunei, Butia Yatay, and a few others.
dbrya1, Get your butt in here more. Us Kansas guys need to stick together. It's so cool to talk to somebody close that shares your hobby.

sounds/reads like you go the same problem I have. Maximus palmus. I started a whole bunch of palm seeds last winter and into the spring and have since planted them into 1 gallon pots and they are everywhere. My wife is already telling me they aren't coming inside this winter. I overwintered a bunch of stuff last year in a basement bedroom with just flourescent lights and a fan. i.e palms, bananas, cannas, tropical stuff, etc. I am going to attempt to overwinter some cold hardy stuff in a small greenhouse type structure with some supplemental heat on the colder nights. I have about 3 months to get something figured out. Good growing.

I lucked out and the new house we have has a huge finished basement, but also has a good sized unfinished part in the basement too. She told me I could buy a greenhouse, but why? When I can do the same thing inside keeping a good temp.
If you have any helpful hints, lemme know.

Well I'll try to post a little more,on vacation last week and this week,so here goes what I've been up too!
I extended my greenhouse 10ft or so,I had a space between the greenhouse and the garage and sunroon,I covered last week, and there is a spot of dirt 6ft by 4ft,that isn't cemented,That I planted today with,Hawaiian ti,anthurium,Majesty palm,
Jamaica Red and Raja Puri bananas, croton, brunsfela, birdnest fern and eppiphyllum, dutchmans pipe.I really over packed it,and put down a heating soil cable to keep the ground temps at 70* during this coming winter.I can open the greenhouse door and slide the sunroom windows for a little extra heat as well.

Here's the front door looking in.There are panels on both sides to creat a 3inch air space.

Florida Wannabe - what kind of a lighting set up do you use in your basement in the winter. I overwintered a number of palms, tropicals and bananas last year using 6 shop lights with the 4' tubes. I put one cool and warm tube in each fixture. It worked OK but I have many more palms this year and am interetsed in what other people are doing. My goal last year was just to get the stuff through winter but this year I'd like to try something different? What are you doing?
